Text to Speech Reader — Free Online Read Aloud Tool, No Signup. Free text to speech reader that reads text aloud in your browser. Pick a voice and language, adjust speed, pitch and volume, pause or resume — no signup, no upload.
Our free text to speech reader reads any text aloud right in your browser.
Paste an article, an email, study notes, a script or a long document, pick a voice and press Play — the tool speaks it back with the voices your browser provides — the ones installed on your computer or phone, plus online voices in some browsers.
It is a quick way to read text aloud when you want to rest your eyes, proofread your own writing by ear, check the pronunciation of a word in another language, practise a presentation, or follow along with content while you multitask.
There are no character limits, no account and no watermark.
Fine-tune how the read aloud voice sounds: filter voices by language (English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese and dozens more, depending on your device), then adjust the speaking rate from 0.1× to 2×, the pitch and the volume.
Long texts are split into sentences automatically so playback does not cut off halfway, and you can pause, resume or stop at any time while the status bar shows which part is playing and highlights the word being read.
The word count and estimated listening time update as you type — handy for timing a voice-over, podcast intro or speech. Need exact counts for your script? Use our Word Counter or Text Analyzer.
This online text to speech tool uses your browser's built-in Web Speech API, and this site never uploads your text.
Most system voices synthesise speech on your own device, but some browsers also offer online voices — such as the Google voices in Chrome or the online natural voices in Edge — that send the text to the browser maker's speech service.
Every voice in the list is labelled On device or Online, so pick an on-device voice for private documents, unpublished drafts and confidential notes.
Available voices depend on your operating system and browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox are supported); speech is played live and cannot be downloaded as an MP3.

Frequently asked questions
How do I use this text to speech reader?
Type or paste text into Input text, pick a Language and a Voice, and press Play. The text is read sentence by sentence, the status line shows which part is playing, and the current word is highlighted when the voice reports word positions. Use Pause, Resume and Stop at any time.
Why are the available voices different on my device?
The voices come from your browser and operating system, not from this site, so the list differs between Windows, macOS, Android, iPhone, Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox. A language or accent, such as British English or Arabic, only appears if a matching voice is available; you can add voices in your system's language or speech settings. Each voice is labelled On device or Online.
How do I change the reading speed, pitch and volume?
Use the Rate slider (0.1x to 2x, default 1x), the Pitch slider (0 to 2, default 1) and the Volume slider (0 to 100 percent). New values apply the next time you press Play. Reset settings restores these defaults, shows all languages again and switches back to the default voice.
Can I download the speech as an MP3?
No. The browser's Web Speech API plays speech live through your speakers and does not give the page access to the audio, so there is no download option. To keep a copy you would need separate audio recording software.
Is there a character limit?
The tool sets no character limit. Long texts are split into sentences, and very long sentences into chunks of about 200 characters, so browsers such as Chrome do not cut playback off. The listening time shown is an estimate based on about 150 words per minute at 1x.
Is my text sent to a server?
This site does not upload your text; it hands it to your browser's speech engine. Voices labelled On device run locally, but voices labelled Online, such as Google voices in Chrome or online natural voices in Edge, are processed by the browser maker's service. Pick an On device voice for private text.
