What do Keep first, Keep last and Keep spaces do?

Keep first and Keep last set how many characters stay readable at the beginning and end (both 4 by default; use 0 to hide everything). With Keep spaces on, the default, spaces are never masked so word boundaries stay visible. Spaces still count toward the Keep first and Keep last positions.

Can the original text be recovered from the masked string?

Not the hidden part: every masked character becomes the same asterisk, so it cannot be reversed. The output does reveal the length of the text and the characters you chose to keep, so lower Keep first and Keep last for short secrets.

Is obfuscating text the same as encrypting or hashing it?

No. This tool only hides part of a string for display, for example in screenshots, logs, tickets or documentation. It does not produce anything you can decrypt or verify later. For a one-way fingerprint of a value, use the Hash Text tool.

Is my secret sent to a server?
