How do I calculate a tip and split the bill?

Enter the Bill Amount, tap a preset (10, 15, 18, 20 or 25 percent) or type a custom percentage, and set Number of People with the minus and plus buttons. The results show the Tip Amount, Total Amount, Tip Per Person and Amount Per Person, and the tipping chart compares every preset.

Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?

Enter the pre-tax bill as Bill Amount and the tax as Tax Amount. By default the tip is calculated on the pre-tax amount, which is common in the US; switch on Tip on tax too to tip on the total including tax. If your bill already includes tax, leave Tax Amount empty.

How does rounding up work?

Round total rounds the grand total up to the next whole currency unit, and Round per person rounds each person's share up so everyone pays a whole amount. The extra is added to the tip, and the Effective tip percentage shows what you actually tip.

Which currencies does the tip calculator support?

13: USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, INR, JPY, CHF, MXN, BRL, CNY, SGD and AED. The currency only changes how amounts are formatted; no exchange rates are applied. You can type amounts with a currency symbol, thousands separators or a decimal comma such as 12,5.

Why do I see a warning instead of results?

The warning appears when the bill is empty or negative, the tax is negative, the tip percentage is outside 0 to 1000, or the number of people is not a whole number from 1 to 1000. Correct the value and the results come back.

Can I share the split with my group?

Yes. Copy summary copies a text breakdown of bill, tax, tip, total and per-person amount to paste into a group chat, and Copy link gives a URL that restores your inputs. Reset returns to a bill of 50 with a 15 percent tip.
