Bytes Converter. Convert bytes to MB, GB, TB, and more — free online bytes converter with SI (decimal) and IEC (binary) formats. Instantly convert KB to MB, MB to GB, and all digital storage units.
Convert between digital storage units instantly with our free online bytes converter. Enter a value, choose your source unit — Bytes, KB, MB, GB, TB, or PB — and see all conversions in one table.
Whether you need to convert bytes to MB, KB to MB, MB to GB, or any other combination, our tool shows the result in both SI (base-10) and IEC (base-2) formats side by side.
Our MB to GB converter and KB to MB converter run entirely in your browser with no data sent to a server.
The SI column uses powers of 1000 (1 KB = 1000 bytes), while the IEC column uses powers of 1024 (1 KiB = 1024 bytes) — the difference matters for OS disk reporting, RAM sizing, and network calculations.
Useful for developers, sysadmins, and anyone working with file sizes or storage capacity.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert bytes to MB or MB to GB?
Enter the number in Value and choose its Unit, for example Megabyte. The table lists the same size in every unit from Byte to Petabyte; read the row you need, so 1500 MB shows as 1.5 GB in the SI column.
What is the difference between SI and IEC units?
SI (decimal) units use powers of 1000, so 1 KB = 1000 bytes and 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes; drive makers use these. IEC (binary) units use powers of 1024 and are written KiB, MiB and GiB, so 1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes; RAM and many operating systems use this base.
What does the Use SI (base 10) checkbox do?
It sets how your input value is read. When ticked (the default), 1 Megabyte means 1,000,000 bytes; when unticked, it means 1 MiB, or 1,048,576 bytes. The table always shows both the SI and IEC columns for the result.
Why does my 1 TB drive show about 931 GB?
The drive is sold as 1 TB in SI units (1,000,000,000,000 bytes), while the operating system divides by 1024. Enter 1 Terabyte with Use SI ticked and the IEC column shows about 931.3 GiB, the figure your computer reports.
How many decimal places are shown?
Results are rounded to 4 decimal places, or 6 for terabytes and petabytes, with trailing zeros removed. Very small values can therefore show as 0 in the largest units.
How to use this online tool
Bytes Converter is designed for fast browser workflows when you need to format, validate, convert, decode, encode, generate, or inspect data without opening a heavy desktop app. Start with the input field or visible options, review the result, then copy or download the output for the next step.
Private processing in your browser
Bytes Converter keeps the normal processing step local in your browser. That is useful for code snippets, tokens, documents, configuration values, text samples, and other material that should not be sent to a remote service unless you explicitly choose to share it.
When this tool is useful
Use Bytes Converter for repeatable developer tasks, technical documentation, QA checks, quick conversions, debugging, content cleanup, and internal team workflows. The page focuses on clear inputs, immediate feedback, and output that is easy to reuse in code, reports, tickets, emails, or notes.
Practical tips
Before copying the final result, check important details such as spacing, casing, filenames, encoding, token structure, line breaks, or output format. Small checks prevent mistakes when the result is reused in source code, API requests, documentation, spreadsheets, or shared files.
