What blood pressure ranges does the checker use?

Normal is below 120 systolic and below 80 diastolic; Elevated is 120 to 129 with diastolic below 80; Hypertension Stage 1 is 130 to 139 or 80 to 89; Hypertension Stage 2 is 140 or higher or 90 or higher; Hypertensive Crisis is higher than 180 or higher than 120, so 180/120 itself is still Stage 2. These follow the American Heart Association categories.

What if my systolic and diastolic numbers fall into different categories?

The tool uses the higher category. For example, 118/85 is classed as Hypertension Stage 1 because the diastolic value is in the 80 to 89 range, even though the systolic value alone would be Normal.
