Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my BMI with this calculator?
Type your weight in kilograms in Weight (kg) and your height in centimetres in Height (cm). Your BMI, rounded to one decimal, and its category appear straight away. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
What formula does the BMI calculator use?
BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. For example, 70 kg and 175 cm give 70 / (1.75 x 1.75) = 22.9.
What do the BMI categories mean?
The tool uses the standard adult ranges: below 18.5 Underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 Normal weight, 25 to 29.9 Overweight and 30 or more Obese. These cut-offs are meant for adults, not for children, teenagers or pregnant women.
Is there a different BMI for men and women?
No. The adult BMI formula and categories are the same for men and women, so this calculator has no gender option. Body fat at the same BMI does differ between the sexes; the Body Fat Calculator estimates it from body measurements.
Can I enter pounds and feet?
No, this calculator only accepts metric units. Convert first: pounds x 0.4536 gives kilograms, and inches x 2.54 gives centimetres, so 5 ft 9 in (69 in) is about 175 cm.
Why might BMI not reflect my health accurately?
BMI only compares weight with height. It does not measure body fat, muscle mass or where fat is stored, so muscular people can score as overweight while others with little muscle can score as normal. Treat it as a rough screening number and talk to a healthcare provider about your health.
How to use this online tool
BMI Calculator is designed for fast browser workflows when you need to format, validate, convert, decode, encode, generate, or inspect data without opening a heavy desktop app. Start with the input field or visible options, review the result, then copy or download the output for the next step.
Private processing in your browser
BMI Calculator keeps the normal processing step local in your browser. That is useful for code snippets, tokens, documents, configuration values, text samples, and other material that should not be sent to a remote service unless you explicitly choose to share it.
When this tool is useful
Use BMI Calculator for repeatable developer tasks, technical documentation, QA checks, quick conversions, debugging, content cleanup, and internal team workflows. The page focuses on clear inputs, immediate feedback, and output that is easy to reuse in code, reports, tickets, emails, or notes.
Practical tips
Before copying the final result, check important details such as spacing, casing, filenames, encoding, token structure, line breaks, or output format. Small checks prevent mistakes when the result is reused in source code, API requests, documentation, spreadsheets, or shared files.
