Video Compressor — Free Online Tool to Compress Video & Reduce Video Size. Compress a browser-playable video locally with quality or estimated target-size settings. Recording runs in real time; smaller files and exact target sizes are not guaranteed.
Your browser re-encodes a supported video locally through canvas and MediaRecorder. Choose quality, resolution and frame rate. This is lossy, real-time recording; shrinking the file or preserving every frame and audio detail is not guaranteed.
Target-size mode estimates a bitrate from duration; the result can exceed the requested size. MP4 and WebM choices depend on browser support. The download name follows the container actually recorded, which may differ from the selected format.
Review the saved size and playback. Use one non-empty file up to 200 MiB, at most 10 minutes, 8192 pixels per edge and 16 megapixels. Output is limited to 200 MiB. Keep the tab open; cancel or change settings to discard the current job.
Files remain in memory without upload. Site advertising makes separate network requests. For still images, use Image Compressor or Image to WebP. Plan dimensions with Aspect Ratio Calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compress a video with this tool?
Drop a video onto the upload area or click it to browse. Choose By quality (Low, Medium or High) or By target file size, optionally lower the resolution or frame rate, then click Compress Video. When it finishes, compare the original and compressed previews and click Download Compressed Video.
How do I compress a video to a specific size, for example for Discord or email?
Target size is an estimate, not a guaranteed limit. The 150 kbps video minimum, audio and browser encoder can produce a larger file. Review the measured size before use.
Why does compression take as long as the video itself?
The video is re-encoded in real time by your browser's MediaRecorder, so a 3-minute clip takes about 3 minutes to process. Keep the tab open until it finishes; you can click Cancel at any time.
Which output formats, resolutions and frame rates can I choose?
Choose Original or a 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p short-side target; smaller sources are not enlarged. Choose 15, 24, 30 or 60 fps. MP4/WebM recording choices depend on browser support, and the download uses the container actually produced. Audio is attempted only when Keep audio track is enabled; check playback before relying on it.
Why is my compressed video larger than the original, or without sound?
Re-encoding an already efficient source, a high bitrate or the minimum 150 kbps video rate can make the result larger. Try a shorter clip, lower quality/resolution or remove audio. Unticking Keep audio track produces silent output; browser capture or playback restrictions can also prevent audio. A detected audio fallback shows a notice, but always listen to the saved video.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The video is read and re-encoded entirely in your browser, so the file never leaves your device and no watermark is added.
