PDF Metadata Editor — Edit, View & Remove PDF Metadata Free. Free online PDF metadata editor. View and edit PDF title, author, subject, keywords, creator, and producer fields — all processing happens in your browser, nothing uploaded.
Our free PDF metadata editor lets you view and update all standard PDF document properties — title, author, subject, keywords, creator, and producer — directly in your browser using pdf-lib. No upload, no server, no sign-up required.
How to Edit PDF Metadata Drop or select your PDF file in the upload zone — the current metadata is read instantly. Edit any of the six fields: Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer.
Optionally clear fields you want to remove (this acts as a PDF metadata remover for those properties). Set a custom output filename and click Export PDF to download the updated file. What Is PDF Metadata?
PDF metadata (also called document properties) is stored in the file's Info dictionary.
It includes descriptive fields like title, author name, subject, and keywords — as well as technical fields like the creating application (Creator) and the PDF conversion software (Producer).
Metadata is visible to search engines, document management systems, and anyone who views document properties in a PDF reader. Some applications also embed a separate XMP metadata stream; this tool edits the Info dictionary only and leaves XMP unchanged.
Why Edit or Remove PDF Metadata? Privacy: PDFs created in Word, LibreOffice, or design tools often embed the author's full name, organisation, and software version.
Before sharing publicly, use this tool to remove PDF metadata or replace it with generic values. SEO and publishing: A well-titled PDF with accurate author and keyword fields is more discoverable in search results and document management systems.
Compliance and archiving: Many record-keeping and e-discovery workflows require accurate document properties. This tool lets you correct or standardise metadata across documents.
Browser-Only Processing — Your Files Stay Private All editing runs in your browser using pdf-lib. Files are never sent to a server, logged, or stored anywhere.
This makes the tool safe for confidential PDFs such as contracts, financial statements, legal briefs, and medical records.
Related Tools After editing metadata you can compress your PDF , check PDF signatures , or merge multiple PDFs — all in the same browser-based toolbox.
Frequently asked questions
How do I edit PDF metadata?
Drop your PDF on the upload area. The current properties load into the form; edit Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator and Producer, set the Output Filename (by default the original name with _metadata added) and click Export PDF.
How do I remove metadata from a PDF?
Clear the fields you want removed and export; emptied fields are saved blank in the PDF's document information dictionary. XMP metadata streams that some apps embed are not edited, so check the result in your PDF reader's document properties.
How should I enter keywords?
Separate keywords with commas, for example report, 2024, finance. Extra spaces are trimmed and empty entries are dropped when the file is saved.
Can I change the creation or modification date?
The Created and Last Modified dates are shown exactly as stored in the file but cannot be typed in. When you export, Last Modified is set to the current time if Update modification date is ticked; untick it to keep the original date. The Producer is saved as whatever is in the Producer field.
Why does export fail for some PDFs?
Password-protected PDFs can be opened for viewing but not re-saved, and damaged files may not load at all. Remove the encryption in a PDF reader, then try again.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Reading and writing the metadata uses pdf-lib in your browser, and the updated PDF is downloaded directly on your device.
