Frequently asked questions
How do I beautify HTML online?
Paste minified or messy markup into the Input HTML box. The Formatted HTML panel updates as you type, putting adjacent tags on separate lines and indenting nested elements. Click Copy HTML to copy the result, or Clear to empty the input.
What indentation does the HTML formatter use?
Two spaces per nesting level. The indentation style and width cannot be changed; if you need tabs, replace the leading spaces in your code editor after copying.
How are br, img, meta and other void tags indented?
Void elements never contain anything, so they do not add an indentation level, with or without a trailing slash. This covers area, base, br, col, embed, hr, img, input, link, meta, source, track and wbr; the tags after them stay at the same level. Custom elements must still have a closing tag to indent correctly.
Does the formatter fix or validate my HTML?
No. It only inserts line breaks between tags and adds indentation; it does not validate, reorder or repair markup, and it does not format inline CSS or JavaScript. Line breaks and indentation already in your input are kept.
Is this the opposite of an HTML minifier?
Yes. Use this tool to make compressed HTML readable, and the HTML Minifier tool to strip whitespace and comments for production. Both run entirely in your browser, so your markup is not uploaded.

Practical tips
