Can I combine templates, for example a gitignore for Node and Python?
Yes. Each selected template is added as its own commented section, such as # Node.js and # Python, in the order you clicked them. A rule already listed by an earlier section, like .env or dist/, is not repeated. It is only written again when a negation rule starting with ! sits in between, because git applies the last matching rule.
Why is a file still tracked after I added it to .gitignore?
.gitignore only affects untracked files. If a file was committed before, remove it from the index with git rm --cached followed by the file name, commit that change, and git will ignore the file from then on.
Should I review the generated rules before committing?
Yes. The templates are opinionated: several ignore .env files and build folders such as dist/ or target/. Lock files are not ignored; the Go and Rust sections carry a comment explaining that go.sum and Cargo.lock should be committed. Delete or add lines to fit your project.
