Minutes are not hundredths

An hour contains 60 minutes; one hundredth of an hour is 36 seconds. A decimal-hour value is a fraction of an hour, not a clock time. The Centre de gestion de l’Eure's conversion reference provides a minutes/hundredths reference. This tool adds two-way input and totals rounded after summation, without applying payroll rules.

The one-minute entry is rounded. Its exact value is 1/60 hour, or 0.016666… hours. Displaying 0.02 hours does not change the original duration.

Convert hours and minutes

Choose Hours and minutes → decimal. Enter whole hours and remaining minutes from 0 to 59. For 90 minutes, enter 1 hour and 30 minutes; for 45 minutes, enter 0 hours and 45 minutes.

Decimal hours = whole hours + minutes ÷ 60.

Select 2, 4 or 6 decimal places. For 2 h 20 min, the result is 2.33 hours at two places or 2.333333 at six. Rounding is to nearest, with ties up. Durations may exceed 24 hours and do not wrap around as clock times would.

Convert decimal hours back

Choose Decimal → hours and minutes and enter a value such as 1.30. A decimal point or comma is accepted, without thousands separators.

1.30 h = 1 hour + 0.30 × 60 minutes = 1 h 18 min.

The result uses hours:minutes:seconds, so this appears as 1:18:00. In comparison, 1.50 becomes 1:30:00, and 0.01 becomes 0:00:36. Inputs with fractional seconds round once to the nearest whole second, with an explicit notice. For example, 1.999999 becomes 2:00:00.

The total is 14 h 30 min, or 14.50 hours. Up to 100 rows are accepted. Invalid rows such as 1:90 are reported by line number; no partial total or CSV is produced until they are corrected.

Three one-minute rows illustrate why rounding order matters. Each displays as 0.02 hours at two places; summing those displayed numbers gives 0.06 hours. The original three minutes total exactly 0.05 hours. This tool therefore sums original durations before rounding the total.

Copy or export

Copy result copies the total or converted duration. For a list, Download CSV exports the converted rows and a Total row. The file uses UTF-8 with BOM, a semicolon separator and a decimal point on the English page; the French page uses a decimal comma. Check delimiter and column formats in your spreadsheet's import preview.

The Total row may differ from summing rounded cells. Editing any input, direction or precision clears the previous result; choose Convert again to calculate with the visible values.

Scope and limits

This is a duration calculator. It does not calculate elapsed time between start/end timestamps, deduct breaks, calculate wages or apply an employer's rounding policy. Values must be non-negative. Whole hours are limited to 999999 per duration and minutes to 59. Reverse conversion accepts up to six decimal places and 999999.999999 hours. Batch input is limited to 100 durations. Negative values, scientific notation and thousands separators are rejected.

Values remain in browser memory without permanent storage or an upload to a calculation server. Ads and other site services make separate network requests. CSV export happens only when requested.
